What is Cypress Falls Swimming Hole?
A dam on Cypress Creek made it. The dam created a small waterfall, which is where the name comes from, and the creek below it widened into a swimming hole.
The water arrives from the underground spring at Jacob’s Well, so it runs clear and holds its temperature through the year rather than warming up the way a still pond does. Swimming, tubing and kayaking are all on. Dogs are welcome.
The falls are also home to Eagle Rock, a limestone formation the creek carved out over a very long time. It is the thing everyone photographs.
How far is it from Cypress Creek Cottages?
A 7-minute drive. 50 Marina Circle, Wimberley, TX 78676.
Wimberley has other swimming holes and they are worth knowing about — we have written a guide to Wimberley’s swimming holes and one to Jacob’s Well, which is eight minutes away and one of the longest submerged caves in Texas.
What makes the falls different is that it is not only a swimming area. There is somewhere to sit, somewhere to get a drink, and room to spend a whole day rather than an hour.
Can you bring the dog?
Yes, at the falls and at the cottages.
All twelve cottages are pet-friendly. No “pet rooms”, no pet-free units, no breed restrictions and no weight limits. Around 3,000 dogs stay here every year. The pet fee is $15 per night per pet, with no deposit, no breed restrictions and no weight limit. Most places around Wimberley do not take dogs at all, and among those that do, $25 to $50 a night is the norm.
Every dog is met with a VIP welcome package: a welcome letter, pet treats, a toy, a pet pillow, bowls, potty pick-up bags and a “just in case” wee pad. There is a fenced and lighted dog park by Cottages 2 and 3, and Cypress Creek runs along the south edge of the property by Cottages 9, 10 and 11. Twenty-five percent of every pet fee goes to Wimberley Adoption Group & Rescue, the local rescue that has been placing dogs since 2009.
Swimming at Cypress Falls Swimming Hole
Cypress Creek Cottages has an arrangement with Cypress Falls Swimming Hole, so you can add swimming when you book, and your swim passes will be waiting in your cottage the day you arrive.
Add them when you complete the reservation, on the tab marked experiences. Each person aged 5 and over needs a pass for each day of swimming. Pets swim free.
Swim passes are part of the package, so your guest rate is lower than the gate price.
Where to stay
Twelve private cottages in Wimberley. Four of them sit on Cypress Creek: three creek-facing with direct views, and one creek-side, steps from the water. Every cottage is a whole cottage, not a room in a building. Your own front door, no shared walls, a full kitchen, a living room, and a private hot tub on a private deck.
For a couple, Cottage 11 Jade is creek-facing with the creek in view from the deck. For a family, Cottage 9 Amethyst and Cottage 10 Coral are the two-bedroom creek-facing cottages, sleeping up to six. And Cottage 4 Red is a studio for up to four, with a king memory-foam bed, a hot tub, a deck and a fireplace.
The property sits under a mile from the historic Wimberley Town Square, and within an easy drive of San Marcos, Austin and San Antonio. A Hill Country cabin in October is a different trip from the same cabin in August, and both are good.
The advertised nightly price is the price. No resort fee, no cleaning fee, no booking fee. The only add-on is the $15 per night pet fee, and you see it before you pay. Cypress Creek Cottages is rated 4.8 on Google and is the #1 hotel in Wimberley on Tripadvisor.
