The Family-Owned Difference: Twelve Cottages in Wimberley, One Owner Since 2008
Cypress Creek Cottages is a pet-friendly cottage property in Wimberley, Texas, with a private hot tub on every deck. Trish and Albert have owned and run it since 2008: twelve cottages, one standard, and a member of the team on site.
Who actually runs the place you are booking?
It is a fair question and a hard one to answer from a listing. Most short-term rentals look much the same from outside. What differs is who is behind them, and you usually find out after you arrive.
Cypress Creek Cottages is owned and run by Trish and Albert, and has been since 2008. Twelve cottages in Wimberley, Texas, and that is the whole business. Not one property in a portfolio, and never handed to a management company.
Here is what that changes.

Why it exists
Albert spent a career travelling for work, with the family along for much of it. Anyone who has done that knows the pattern: the room is fine, nobody knows your name, and the dog stays home.
So in 2008 they bought a property in Wimberley with a straightforward idea. Build the place they had spent years looking for and never found. Somewhere you bring the dog, settle in, and are treated like a person rather than a reservation number.
The property you would stay in today is not the one they bought. It was remodelled and rebuilt around what guests actually said: what worked, what did not, what they wished had been there. That is still how decisions get made here.
Albert, in one of the cottages, on why the place exists.
Why the questions keep coming
Trish and Albert stay in contact with guests after they leave, and not as a formality. The questions are what a guest liked enough to mention, what quietly annoyed them, and what they would want next time.
It is a slow way to run a business, and it is the only way to improve something an owner cannot see from the inside. Averaged over the last four years, 26% of bookings at Cypress Creek Cottages come from returning guests. That is the clearest signal that it works.
One standard, not twelve
When twelve cottages belong to twelve different owners, each is furnished, stocked and cleaned to a different idea of good enough. Booking becomes a gamble on which one you drew.
At Cypress Creek Cottages all twelve belong to the same owners. The same people decide what a bed feels like, what goes in the kitchen and what clean means. Guests mention cleanliness in 564 of 1,260 reviews — not because it is remarkable, but because it is consistent, and consistency is what gets written down.
Someone is here
A member of the team is on site. There is no front office and no lobby. When something needs attention, you tell a person who is already here.
If the hot tub is not right at nine in the evening, you are not filing a ticket and waiting until Monday. You are telling someone who can walk over. The crew who look after the place are the same people, who know the property. The longest-serving member has been at Cypress Creek Cottages fourteen years, and most have been there at least seven.
Albert answers the phone. That is deliberate. It is the fastest way to understand what guests actually need, and it is hard to do at scale, which is rather the point.
The price is the price
The advertised nightly price is what you pay. No resort fee, no cleaning fee, no booking fee. The only add-on is the $15 per night pet fee, and you see it before you pay.
That is not a promotion. It is what happens when the person setting the price is the person who checks you in.
What to check anywhere you book
Not just here. These are worth asking of any small property, and all five are easy to check before you pay:
- Who answers if you call? Someone who knows the property, or a queue.
- Is the price on the search page the price at checkout? Add two nights and look.
- Do the reviews mention the same things? Consistency across many reviews says more than any single five-star.
- Does the owner reply to reviews? Including the unhappy ones.
- How long has it been running, and in whose hands? A property in the same hands for years has already solved problems a new one has not met.
Cypress Creek Cottages does well on all five. A guest should check anyway, here and anywhere else.
The dogs
The dog was the reason any of this started, so it is not an afterthought. Around 3,000 dogs stay here every year. All twelve cottages are pet-friendly. No “pet rooms”, no breed restrictions, no weight limits, no deposit. The fee is $15 per night per pet; most places around Wimberley do not take dogs at all, and among those that do, $25 to $50 a night is the norm.
Twenty-five percent of every pet fee goes to Wimberley Adoption Group & Rescue, the local rescue that has been placing dogs since 2009.
That decision is only available to someone who owns the cottages and decides where the money goes.
Where to stay
Twelve private cottages in Wimberley, under a mile from the historic Square. Walk it or drive it. Four sit on Cypress Creek: three creek-facing with direct views, and one creek-side, steps from the water.
Every cottage is a whole cottage, not a room in a building. Your own front door, no shared walls, a full kitchen, a living room, and a private hot tub on a private deck. For a couple, Cottage 11 Jade is creek-facing. For a family, Cottage 9 Amethyst and Cottage 10 Coral are the two-bedroom creek-facing cottages, sleeping up to six. All twelve are pet-friendly cottages in Wimberley.
A Hill Country cabin you can settle into is a different trip from a room you pass through.
