The History of Old Baldy
The Old Baldy Trail and hill has an interesting history. Once the home and leisure place for settlers, the 1,182-foot hilltop was cleared out in the 1950s when some long-time residents put in a dance floor, a jukebox, and 218 steps. This gave the hill its signature “bald” look and inspired its name. The steps and half the dance floor can still be found to this day, and it’s become a sort of tradition for locals to come up with their own new additions for the beloved hill.
In 2014, Old Baldy was set to be sold, but Wimberley locals raised the funds to purchase the landmark and keep it open to the public for generations to come.
Take your family with you on this fun and interesting hike – enjoy the walk and the views, spend some quality time together, check out all the new additions to this local favorite, and maybe even add one of your own!
